And I am saying that without any irony at all.
It appears as though the Abramoff scandal is now causing the rank and file to revolt against the current leadership. If the reports I have read are correct, then Tom DeLay's position as majority leader is history.
So why is this proof of their intelligence? Republicans are now realising that they stand to lose a great deal from the scandals engulfing the White House and Congress. Ordinary Republicans from "the base" may not be aware what is going on, what the ones in power are beginning to see the writing on the wall.
